ELEVATED CAR POOL WEAR- yeah, it's a thing.

ELEVATED CAR POOL WEAR- yeah, it's a thing.

While buying in LA a couple years ago, I pulled out some Skin leggings and said to our awesome rep (hi, Mags!), “wow. These are perfect for school drop off.” She looked up, nodded, and very seriously replied, “yes. Elevated carpool wear.” I laughed because, though I’d never actually heard of this term before, I totally got it! Who doesn’t want to be in elevated car pool wear when they drop their kids off to school?! You can run to the grocery store, meet a friend for coffee, speak to your kids teachers and have a chat with your neighbor all without embarrassment (as opposed to those times you may or may not have driven your kid to school in the shirt that you slept in. Yes, I’m guilty of that, too). Now, of course, not everyone is heading back to school in person, but the idea here is to be able to quickly pull together a comfortable and functional look for at home, errand running, homeschooling, working from home, whatever is happening in your household this fall.

Luckily, nailing the “Elevated Car Pool” look is pretty easy, even on the tightest of school mornings. Stock your closet with a few pair of new leggings. Yes, it’s important that they’re new because we all have a pair (or four) of old overly broken-in pants that should be thrown away but we can’t bear to do so. If you’ve got some new, fresh and easy leggings in your closet it’ll be easier to ignore the urge to just wear the old ones. Our current in-store legging favorites are from Varley, Beach Riot, Koral, and of course, Skin.

My preferred look on top is a slightly oversized tee shirt (Anine Bing nails it), and again I’m going to recommend stocking your closet with a couple of fresh new ones (same mentality as above). I also love to pair leggings with a great sweatshirt (groundbreaking, I know). However, if you really just CANNOT be bothered to change out of your husband’s old ratty tee shirt (no judgment, sister, I’ve been there) then grab an oversized denim jacket (the RtA Erika is my current favorite) or a long, cozy cardigan to conceal the evidence.

Finally, finish with cute sneakers, flip flops or our current favorite easy shoe, the Freedom Moses two strap slide (shop them HERE). Add sunglasses, and for the real overachievers out there, swipe on KOSASPORT’s tinted lip balm in either Pulse or Rush. BOOM. Elevated car pool wear, baby. Now go make sure your kid packed their backpack and their shoes are on in a timely manner. Godspeed! xx Katie
